MY STORY
I am 57 years old and was diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure CHF 6 years ago. This came as a total shock to me. There were signs I just did not listen to my body, it was trying to tell me. Half of all elderly folks diagnosed with CHF die within 5 years of being diagnosed.
Heart disease is at an epidemic level and it is my hope that the information in this site will help save lives. Shortness of breath, a constant cold, swelling, dizziness, chest pressure are a few of the symptoms to look for. High blood pressure combined with obesity are serious problems. When I was diagnosed I weighed 278 pounds and my ideal body for my height is about 165 pounds. When I got out of the hospital I was winded after a walk around the block and now after 4 years of training and a complete change of diet I have shed 50 pounds (more to go) and have ridden my trike over 10,000 miles.
Deterioration of the heart muscle can be minimized and in some cases the heart function will improve with weight loss, exercise and a balanced diet. There are many ways to exercise and I will share with you how I got started. I will share what has worked and what has not. We will talk about my favorite exercise recumbent trike riding.
